Controdanza, from “country dance,” is a traditional rural dance in which the dancers move elegantly in a game of contrasts and understanding. This is what we imagined when we combined Nero d'Avola and a small amount of Merlot, grown in the white soils of Noto. An unconventional combination, based entirely on contrast rather than similarity. It was created as a classic “second wine” from vineyards that, despite being located in the valleys surrounding the Buonivini Winery, do not meet the standards for Santa Cecilia. These are the lowest parts of the valleys, where the fruit prevails over the balsamic notes typical of Nero d'Avola on the limestone of Noto.
